During the period of April 2014- June 2014, the following activities took place at the site: • CRA and the City of Dearborn worked together regarding the transfer of the responsibility of the Cover System monitoring activities from the NPOS Respondents to the City of Dearborn. • EPA approved the decommission of the Multi-Phase Extraction (MPE) System which included the extraction well abandonment. • Completed quarterly operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM). • Completed the annual May 2014 monitoring well and gas probe chemical sampling. • Completed methane monitoring activities.
During the period of July 2014- September 2014, the following activities took place at the site: • CRA and EPA agreed to monitor the methane quarterly as part of the OMM Plan implementation to detect any changes or transport. • Completed quarterly operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM). • MPE System decommissioning began on site which included the conversion of the LNPAL extraction wells to interim gas vents to vent methane from the vadose zone below the cover system. The operation of these wells as gas vents will continue for the next several quarters. In 2015, based on methane levels it will be determined if the interim gas vents can be closed and the Cover System repaired.
During the period of October 2014- December 2014, the following activities took place at the site: • EPA approved the use of the existing extraction wells as passive gas vents. • CRA continues to decommission the MPE system including cleaning and electrical disconnection. • Reconfiguration of the existing venting extraction wells to a “goose neck” configuration and retrofitted the existing monitoring wells for methane monitoring. • Completed quarterly operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM). • Completed MDEQ Site Identification form to change the waste generator status from Small Quantity Generator (SQG) to a Liquid Industrial Waste Generator (LIWG).
