The Missouri Wood Treating Co. site is the location of a former wood treating business that operated from approximately 1938 to 2016. During wood treating operations, a five percent (%) pentachlorophenol (PCP) and diesel fuel mixture was utilized to chemically pressure-treat and preserve oak and pine wood products. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) referred the site to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund and Emergency Management Division on March 28, 2023.
EPA conducted a Removal Site Evaluation (RSE) in October and December 2023 which identified abandoned spent-PCP wood treating solutions remaining in containers at the site and PCP-contaminated soils in areas surrounding the former operations areas.
A subsequent time-critical removal action was initiated in July 2024 to address the PCP-contaminated soils. The removal action was completed in December 2024.
