Public Notice - Administrative Record Available - 7/12/2024 @ 1629pm 7/13/2024 Site Update
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has compiled the Administrative Record (AR) for a Time-Critical Removal Action at the Oronogo Duenweg Mining Belt National Priorities List (NPL) Superfund Site (site) in Joplin, Missouri. The site is part of the historic lead and zinc Tri-State Mining District (TSMD) in Missouri. Learn about the NPL at: www.epa.gov/superfund/superfund-national-priorities-list-npl.
EPA’s Removal Action includes remediating (cleaning up) lead at residential properties at the site across Jasper County, Missouri. The AR is the official site file that contains technical documents about response actions at the site. EPA developed this document collection to provide a clear understanding of the site action.
Lead is a toxic metal that is harmful if inhaled or ingested and can pose serious health risks, particularly to children under 7 years old, as well as pregnant women and nursing mothers. For information on how to protect your family from lead hazards, visit: www.epa.gov/mo/protect-your-family-lead-hazards-historic-lead-mining-areas-fact-sheet-august-2022. EPA posts fact sheets for Missouri sites at: www.epa.gov/mo/missouri-cleanups.
Contact EPA today about FREE Residential Lead Testing: If your property is located within Jasper County, EPA can test your yard and/or private drinking water well for FREE, including residential yards, private drinking water wells, and other child high-use areas. Testing is performed at no cost to current residents and property owners. Please contact EPA or EPA’s soil sampling contractor, Tetra Tech, to request testing. Call Tetra Tech at 620-284-1357, or email EPA at R7-TSMD@epa.gov.
To view cleanup documents, please visit EPA’s Site Profile page at: www.epa.gov/superfund/oronogoduenwegmining (see Site Documents & Data).
