On March 13, 2025, at 2:50 PM, the EPA was notified by the
National Response Center of a release of an unknown amount of produced water
and crude oil from an aboveground production line near Pawhuska, Oklahoma,
owned by Novy Oil and Gas, Inc., the responsible party (RP). The release was
suspected to have originated from the deterioration-related failure of a 3-inch
poly line connecting the RP’s oil well to its tank battery.
EPA was activated to conduct a preliminary assessment and evaluate potential impacts to Waters of the
United States (WOTUS). It was determined
that 0.75 barrels of crude oil and 75 barrels of produced water had been
released from the 3-inch poly production line. While the stock pond at the site
was affected, the assessment found no observed impact or substantial threat of
impact to WOTUS. The EPA demobilized, and the RP continues to provide reports
on the cleanup efforts to ensure the spill is properly managed in accordance
with environmental protection standards.
