Late April 6, 2025, EPA Region 8 received NRC notification of an uncontrolled release from Chevron's Bishop A18-742 oil well.  The well is located approximately seven miles northeast of Greeley, Colorado.

EPA deployed an on-scene coordinator to the spill location on April 7, 2025 to help conduct an environmental assessment. EPA is working with Galeton Fire, Weld County Emergency Management,  the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) and Chevron in response to the incident.  The priority remains the safety and security of the community, response crews, and the environment.

The well is located near Willow Creek and an unknown quantity of oil emulsion has reached the creek.  Sheen was visible on Willow Creek and Chevron has deployed boom to control the movement. Water samples have been collected and further assessment will be conducted once the release has been controlled. At this time, there are no known impacts to drinking water systems.
